This timelapse features over 8000 still images combined into a single video sequence, showing the northern hemisphere (over North America) as seen by the GOES geostationary weather satellites. The Earth is photographed in the Visible, Infrared, Shortwave Infrared (4um), and Water Vapor IR channels about every 26 minutes. The resulting images are then combined, color-enhanced, and scaled (flattened) out to produce the map-like result we are used to seeing in weather reports. Occasional flicker and glitches in the video are caused by missing or incomplete images/data.
