When first approaching Surtr, Kratos and Atreus get pushed away by a strong force, enemies swarming around them.
After Kratos and Atreus had dealt with the enemies, they confronted Surtr once more. Surtr, not interested in Kratos and Atreus, tells them to go away.
Then, he saw the Blades of Chaos on Kratos' back, getting his attention which ultimately made him agree to becoming Ragnarök.
