The GN4 Phase 3 Network Project has delivered the most extensive restructuring of the GÉANT Association backbone to date, expanding connectivity from 14 to 32 countries through long-term fibre acquisition, leased lines and advanced transmission equipment. The initiative ensures that Europe’s research and education communities benefit from secure, resilient and scalable cross-border infrastructure for the next two decades. By integrating 18 new countries and providing links of at least 100 Gbps -many up to 400 Gbps - the project strengthens Europe’s scientific collaboration ecosystem. With capacity to scale to terabit speeds, GÉANT now connects 50 million users across 10,000 institutions, establishing one of the world’s most advanced research networks.
