Giovanni Battista Piranesi has an Architectural Artist during the mid-1700s, and he created over 100 etchings of his Views of Rome, Vedute di Roma. What we see in his works are of a wrecked and partially buried Rome, buildings are damaged and the streets and countrside have areas under a layer of mud. There is vegetation hanging or growing off of the tops of buildings, giving the viewer the sense that these structures had been underwater.
What happened in Rome prior to this period? What caused the damage to one structure, but spared the building next to it. Where did all the mud come from? Was there a mudflood? Was there an X-Factor event? Was this a Reset of Rome?
We'll examing in close detail approximately 30 art works, and break down each piece into an even closer inspection.
