A few years back I started playing the GG Aleste series on Game Gear and cleared the first game. I was working on clearing the second game when my Game Gear died and I didn't have the motivation to fix it.
Now that the Aleste collection on Switch exists (and has for a while now, Im always way late to these things), I sat down and gave it another go.
GG Aleste II follows the same formula as the other games in the Aleste series so if you've played any of them this will feel very similar.
Most of the weapons are bad except for the napalm, which has the broken ability of canceling bullets. So using this Drastically brings down the difficulty, even on the hardest setting.
And of course it has the Compie trademark of having a busted scoring system where you can just milk points indefinitely. Have they ever made a game that didn't have infinite pattetns?
Here the infinite farm can be done on stage 3, where the game stops scrolling at the 4 faces that continuously fire destructable projectiles.. I didn't bother doing the farming this time.
The developers of the port, M2 on this case, knew this so the leaderboards are now ranked based on the time it took to clear the game. Yes, they want you to do a speed run of a shmup because the scoring is broken lol. Once again, i didn't bother with that either and just went for the no miss and called it a day.
