Many people have tried to use an older version of Skype that's compatible with their PowerPC based Mac, only to discover that they "can't connect to Skype servers" that allow you to sign in. Skype checks the version you are running to see if you are on an outdated "unsupported" version. If you are, they won't allow you to sign into your account and access Skype services. The workaround to this is to "fool" Skype into thinking you're running the latest version, by changing a text file.
