In this #fridaysews vlog I'm getting into my sewing groove by sewing this beautiful Paisley Princess cotton lawn fabric from Stitch Fabrics. S1538 is one of my go-to shirt patterns. I’ve probably made over a dozen shirts from this pattern, but not version D before, so it felt nice to make something familiar but a little different. This version has gathered sleeves into a narrow wrist band. It has a more feminine look to it and I love how it looks and the fabric is so soft and silky.
My Itch to Stitch Atenas jacket was sewn in October 2022 in black stretch denim from Dalston Mills Fabric and topstitched with Orange topstitching thread bought from Minions of Craft. Though it is a little snug, it was my first attempt at making the Atenas, it is one of my wardrobe favourites. I’ve worn it many times since making it over summer dresses and shirts. Here you can see I’m wearing it over one of my favourite shirt patterns Simplicity S1538.
Also this week I managed to hand sew the latest diamond blocks of my Queen of Diamonds Quilt subscription. These two blocks represent month 5. They came together quite easily. A nice little hand-sewing project for the evenings when watching tv.
As usual I went off on a tangent, due to a new family member arriving, and got all excited and decided to make a Luna Lapin Alfie Rabbit inspired by my visit to the craft shop when visiting Swanage. I was very good and managed to find all that I needed from my stash to make this gorgeous little rabbit. Making Alfie was such fun. Making little clothes, though fiddly, especially for my big hands, is so rewarding as they come together very quickly and can be made out of scrap fabric… Yay! It’s rare that I manage to make three items of clothing in two days!!
What Am I Making? When making this video I was not sewing anything. I’m planning my next project, probably the Style Arc Kennedy Hoodie. Just figuring out the pattern and what fabric to use. Looking in my fabric index box for inspiration.
Crown Tapestry.
This tapestry is a design of Caroline Charles’. I worked from the tapestry chart in The Ehrman Needlepoint Book. I really like this needlepoint as it’s colourful and fun and being a royalist I thought it would look great sitting on my sofa along with my other handmade cushions. It’s been in progress for quite a while, and I mean years, and I’m inspired now to get it finished. So close. Just need to figure what trim to use.
WIPs
I have an embarrassing number of ‘Works In Progress’ and really want to get as many finished as I can before going into 2024. I have time. I just need to plan these projects into my sewing schedule, maybe chip away at them and get them out of the WIP box once and for all. I have found going through the box, and looking at their corresponding project sheets, that purchases needed to be made to get some of them finished, so I’ve been searching and ordering like a demon. Sometimes, though, it’s not easy seeking out goodies to finish projects as I just see things I want (don’t necessarily need things, but I just can’t help myself!) and I’m very naughty and end up buying more stuff to cram into my sewing room. I need to keep focused!! Receiving purchases makes me so happy though as it sets my creative imagination off.
