Wordplay is my favorite form of humor, and from the moment I made my overhead rack for hanging shop-made jigs, I had it in mind to make this sign. But I couldn't do it in a pretty font like Poor Richard by holding a router, or carving it by hand with my current skillset. When I got my X-Carve, it was a no-brainer to make this the first official CNC project.
I used Easel, the online design software by Inventables, to carve this sign. However, Easel has a very limited set of fonts, and I haven't found documentation on how to add any. So what I did was use Inkscape, a free vector graphics program, to write the text in the Poor Richard font, and then save it as a svg (vector graphics) file. Then I imported that into Easel. Easel didn't see it as text, but I was able to move and resize it as I pleased.
The X-Carve produces a tremendous amount of very fine sawdust, which is why you see me both wearing a mask and covering the computer and electronics with plastic. A future project will be building a permanent housing for it all which includes filters.
