In this video, I’m teaching Lilly how to lunge, and it takes less than 15 minutes to get her going around me! However, this quick success is only possible if you've already done the groundwork. It’s essential that your horse understands basic aids before asking them to lunge—otherwise, it’s unfair and sets them up for failure.
This is a warts-and-all video, so if you’re expecting perfection, you might want to look elsewhere. Training young horses is a journey, and I show the real process, including the little challenges along the way.
Lunging is a fundamental training skill that helps your horse find balance without a rider. But remember, your horse needs to know what you're asking for before you start.
