For the longest time, beating Dogadon 2 without Chunky was deemed to be impossible. To do this, hit him with the TNT barrel right when he lands during the sinking platform phase. However, dodging the fireballs is tricky because DK is pretty slow when he's holding the barrel. When you hit Dogadon, Hunky Chunky will appear out of nowhere and finish him while DK gets hit and flies across the screen - it's all teamwork.
I didn't find this trick myself. Someone recently uploaded a speedrun of the fight that uses the trick with Chunky (youtu.be/uQCDvOo_tn8), which led me to try it with DK.
