Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that mothers can develop in the final part of their pregnancy, causing their sugar levels to rise.
Gestational diabetes is a warning sign for women, because even though the illness disappears after their pregnancy, they have an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
But just because the risk is higher doesn’t mean it’s a sure thing. If you had gestational diabetes, making lifestyle changes and working with your doctor can help lower that risk of a type 2 diabetes diagnosis later on.
The Scarborough Health Network has sponsored the creation of over a hundred educational videos for type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
