At the coastal town of Berck-Plage, the German army built a battery to defend the area. Batterie Berck-Nord was armed with 3 x 17cm K18 guns in open emplacements with ammunition niches. These were manufactured by Krupp and had a range of 29 km. They were placed in open ring positions cast in concrete with room for adjacent ammunition magazines. This massive site was manned by 6th battery of the Army Coastal Artillery Regiment (HKAR) 1245. The position has suffered from erosion and many bunkers moved from the dunes to the beach. There are many different and rare bunker types ( 105b and a 107) scattered around the site. Today the beach is reserved for naturists.
