An overview of the idea and practice of gentrification in U.S. cities, once referred to as "urban renewal". This is a topic that is often debated and can lead to strong feelings for or against. It is also often tied to partisan politics, with "pro-gentrification" supposedly being right-wing and "anti-gentrification" supposedly being left wing. Here I present specific examples of cities I'm familiar with to give the pros and cons of gentrification and discuss how it's not so simple of a topic.
