In the fifth installment of The Causes of Evolution, we're looking at genetic drift - the stochastic change in allele frequencies due to finite populations. We show how the binomial distribution can be used to model drift and how it underlies the basis of the Wright-Fisher model, discuss the concepts of identity-by-descent and coalescence, and touch on effective population size.
