In this video, we look at metals. First we explore the position of metals and non-metals on the Periodic Table. This includes the reactive metals in group 1 (alkali metals) and group 2, as well as the transition metals, which are generally less reactive. We then look at why metals lose electrons when they react and how this leads to the formation of positive metal ions. I show you how to calculate the charge on a metal ion, giving you the sodium ion and beryllium ion to try yourself.
