In this video, we look at ionic bonding between group 2 metals such as magnesium and group 6 non-metals such as oxygen. We explore why this reaction takes place and look at how to calculate the charges on the ions produced. We then look at ionic bonding between any group 1 or 2 and group 6 or 7 elements, using the examples of lithium and oxygen as well as calcium and fluorine.

In this video, we look at the transition elements. First we look at the location of the transition elements on the periodic table. We then look at the properties of the transition elements compared with the group 1 metals (alkali metals). This includes their hardness, their melting points, their density, how rapidly they react and the charge on the ion. Finally we look at how transition metals form coloured compounds and how transition metals can be useful as catalysts.
