In this video, we look at how the elements in group 7 (the halogens) achieve a full outer energy level (shell) by forming compounds. First we explore how group 7 elements share electrons to form covalent compounds with other non-metal elements for example the compound hydrogen chloride. We then look at how group 7 elements react with non-metals by gaining one electron to form the negative halide ion and how this leads to ionic bonding.
