In this video, we start looking at giant covalent molecules. First we explore what is meant by giant covalent molecules. We then look at the structure and properties of diamond. This includes why diamond is a hard substance with a very high melting and boiling point, and why diamond cannot conduct electricity. We explain this in terms of the covalent bonding in diamond. We then look at the properties of the giant covalent substance silicon dioxide.
