Gastown is the old town of Vancouver, British Columbia, at the northeast end of Downtown. This area was the first downtown area of Vancouver' and named after a steamboat captain who opened the areas first bar in 1867.

Gastown is today a few blocks of brick buildings around Water Street featuring boutiques, restaurants and nightclubs. The area’s nightlife attracts a lot of visitors.

The steam-powered clock on the corner of Cambie and Water Street is the areas most well known landmark. However it’s not as old as one might think, it’s built in 1977 as a way to take care of steam from a vent.
