While the words "San Diego" and "winter mountaineering" are usually not found together, during winters with high amounts of precipitation, snow can and does occur at higher elevations. One of the best places to hike or climb at these times is Garnet Peak (5,900 feet elevation) in the Cleveland National Forest for a unique experience that only occurs every few years.
