This was a project I'd wanted to do for some time but opportunity and cost had made it prohibitive.
Running out of room in the little box room all my gear was in and the impending arrival of another member to the family meant we needed space and I needed more room so the challenge was on.
To try and keep cost to a minimum I tried to do as much as possible myself. I had a builder do the new internal wall and the plastering and the doors as I didn't trust my ability to do those having not done them before so I just helped from a labour point of view to speed the time up. The doors being the weak point in terms of sound leakage I wanted someone who had done them before to get the best seal possible.
And obviously I got an electrician in for the electrics.
Despite seemingly saying how certain aspects were "a nightmare" a lot of the time in the video to be honest it went pretty smoothly without any real problems, notwithstanding my impatience for the plaster drying as quickly as I'd like and the whole thing only took 3 weeks from start to finish (not 3 full on weeks working on it every day).
Considering all the insulation and no air gaps bar the vents it actually isn't very warm inside now it is all done. The concrete has an underlay as well as the carpet so whether it is the cold transferring through there or just the cool air coming in from the vents as I'm not in here enough for body heat to keep the room at a consistent temperature.
Considering the cost it would be to get a company in to do the job, by all accounts it was a relatively cheap venture all in.
