On this episode of Game Industry Legends, AWS Principal Evangelist for Video Games, Chris Melissinos, sits down with game industry legend and pioneer, Steve Cartwright.
Steve was one of the first 5 game designers at Activision, which was founded at the end of 1979 by game designers who left Atari and created the very first, 3rd party game developer in the industry. Steve pioneered a variety of techniques and technologies that became commonplace in video game development.
His prolific career has found him creating one of the most complicated game kernels for an Atari 2600 game, Megamania, which is one of my top 10 games of all time, developing the concept of the first video game sequel, the first game to shoot live actors against a green screen, producing the first online sports game, and so much more, Steve has made an outsized impact on the games industry across his 30 years in the industry with more than 60 published games he has helped create.
