This is the port of the rare arcade rail shooter experience from Namco. It ran on the Namco Theater 6 system, which was a small walk-in theater with multiple seats and controls for players. It first debuted as a huge theme park attraction for over twenty players at once. The game was later released in 1990 for arcades and this PS1 port came out in 1996 for JP and PAL regions. This PS1 version also includes a second mission, called 'The Rising of Gourb', with improved visuals suited for the PS1.

Starblade seems very similar to this, even seems to share some 3D models from here. I am pretty sure I saw a version of the Namco Theater system in Las Vegas at the Luxor in the late 90's. The game was projected onto a large screen and the players control turrets where they sat.
