‘Tis the season to be jolly and thankful! And what better to be thankful for my viewers than to upload a ton of covers? This month, I will be uploading a new video every weekend, instead of every other weekend. That’s 5 covers this month! With that said, we’re kicking things off with good ole’ Kirby.
Kirby’s Dreamland 3 was a game that eluded me for a long time. My first play through of this game was after I purchased the Kirby 20th Anniversary Dream Collection. Before I played the game, though, I listened to the bundled CD. There were 2 tracks from KDL3 was on it, and one of them was Ripple Field 1. The song really reminded me of Aqua Star from Kirby 64, which is one of my favorites, but was also very fresh and different from the other water level tunes I was used to.
I had started, and actually finished, this mix a long time ago. The date created field on my new computer has 12/31/14 stamped on it, but this was made way before I got this new computer. After starting the channel, I reached way back, dusted it off, polished it up, and here we are! I went with the 2A03 style as a throwback to Kirby’s Adventure, as well as to get my feet wet with the software. Go ahead and give some critiques on things I can improve on. Can you say, “PSYYYYYCHE!”? In my last video, I said that this weeks upload would be from the last round of the Robots vs. Knights competition Im in. The competition was pushed back a week, so I didnt have it ready for this weeks upload. So, I was persuaded to join in on some #SonicMonth2017 fun during my scramble to figure out what I should be working on!
If you read the description in my “King of the Kuiper Belt” upload (https://youtu.be/BtmW_W6NlpM), I said that I had an idea for a funk song in my head. THIS song was that original idea. Im not kidding when I say this has been in my head for at least 6 months lol. I just finally had the push to take the plunge and quit telling myself, “Youre not ready for this.” Lots of techniques applied from the past, plus I learned a few new ones, so overall success! I didnt play this game very much, but I certainly never got past the first stage much like every one else. Let me know what you thought about this one in the comments!")

Pro tip: go listen to the soundtrack for A Plumber for All Seasons. Its a wonderful OST for a Super Mario World romhack. One notable track that caught my ear was Breakbeat Darkness by RednGreen. The rhodes-esque chords really took me, and I wondered if the sound could be replicated with Super Metroid samples. It can! Take that sound and layer Red Brinstar on top, and you essentially have this track lol.
I debated making this an actual Red Brinstar cover, but decided to go with an original melody instead. The stack of 4ths from the rhodes really gave a somber sound that could easily slip between major and minor sounds with the melody. I played with a lot of melodies and progressions before settling on whats here.

Breath of the Wild, HYYYYYYPEE! Like everybody else, Im excited to get my hands on the new Zelda game in March, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to revisit the franchise and whip up a new tune.
The Great Sea is a very triumphant and energetic song, but has that small hint of peacefulness to it. Also, theres tons of water. That (and a lot of likes on my Starfish Breeze video, hehe) is how I decided what direction to take this in. I really enjoyed working on this, it was very relaxing the whole time, hahaha. Funny story, this is actually one of the first tracks I wrote that kicked off this original writing stint! I started it about a year ago with a lot of inspiration from Sparkle by Tatsuro Yamashita. I really liked the chord work in that track and thought it would fit KDL3s Ripple Field 2 aesthetic. With that, I also wanted to make a pseudo-Ripple Field 1 track.
This track uses a lot of call and response since it works well with KDL3s 5-channel limit. This track is technically where I initially implemented the idea for further implementation on Coral Cove! I will also admit that the A melody is fairly Guar Plains inspired. I tweaked the melody enough to be unique (insert can i copy ur homework meme) and theres the track!
The main reason the track took a year to make was the B section. I could never find a melody and chords I liked to fit in that spot, plus I ended up moving over to Super Metroid style tracks. Finally came up with something though! Hope you enjoy.
