Acting Police Chief Jesse Salame has been named the next chief of the San Antonio Police Department after being appointed Wednesday afternoon by City Manager Erik Walsh.

Salame has been leading the department on an interim basis since longtime Police Chief William McManus retired this summer after 20 years on the job.
