The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced that, with effect from midnight tonight, both grades of petrol will increase by R1,34 cents per litre while both grades of diesel go up by between R2,93 cents per litre and R3,14 cents per litre.
The department says one of the contributing factors to the increase is the higher crude oil prices as a result of the continued US/Iran tensions, uncertainty regarding the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz and higher shipping costs.
