The Fruit Seller by Gustave Vichy of Paris, clockwork musical automaton made in around 1880. The figure holds a tree covered in tiny oak leaves suggesting the freshness of his three fruit, an Apple, Pear and Peach. The fruit open in turn to reveal three animated surprises, a chattering Monkey, a dancing Couple and a spinning Mouse.
The video show some other examples and an exploded drawing of the mechanism by the talented Lyn Wright.
This automaton was owned by Constance Spry, a notable figure in the history of Flower Arranging and Cookery.
