Already a long-time choice of cowboys, Levi’s® were an obvious choice for movie houses during the Golden Age of Hollywood and the soaring popularity of Westerns.
In 1939, John Wayne immortalized the iconic cowboy look by donning cuffed Levi’s® 501® jeans in Stagecoach. From that point, Levi’s® remained an essential element in creating the signature Western style of Hollywood. And that legacy holds true in recent Westerns like Brokeback Mountain, where Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger both wear Levi’s® jeans.
Westerns weren’t the only films featuring actors in Levi’s®. Marlon Brando popularized the look of the rebel in The Wild One, considered to be the original biker film, wearing 501® jeans and a leather jacket. In the sci-fi blockbuster, Star Wars, Mark Hamill famously wore a pair of Sta-Prest white Levi’s® as Luke Skywalker.
Today, Levi’s® Haus of Strauss Los Angeles, LS&Co.’s entertainment showroom minutes away from Hollywood studios, makes Levi’s® available to studios and rising stars.
Join Levi’s® Historian Tracey Panek for an exciting exploration of the rich history of Levi’s® in Hollywood and the movie memorabilia preserved in the Levi’s® Archives.
