From Peter Jackson’s epic The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) comes one of the most iconic movie headpieces - Sauron's helmet. Worn by actor Sala Baker during the opening battle of the Siege of Barad-dûr, it’s in this scene that Isildur famously severed the One Ring from Sauron’s hand, bringing about his fiery defeat and leaving this scorched war helm behind.
Crafted by the legendary Weta Workshop under Richard Taylor’s direction, this lightweight fibreglass and resin helmet became the defining look of Sauron’s physical form – its fearsome spiked silhouette now etched into cinematic history. Only a few characters appeared in all six Middle-earth films, and Sauron’s dark presence loomed over them all.
Detailed with battle damage, black and silver filigree, and an iridescent blue sheen, this very helmet was later used as the reference for all licensed replicas.
