Volunteers power change, and it's time to invest in them 📢 For too long, volunteering has been seen as a “nice-to-have” rather than a necessity. But research confirms what many in the social sector already know: volunteers are essential.
Our just-released report, "From Nice to Necessary: Uncovering the True Impacts and Costs of Volunteering," developed in partnership with The Bridgespan Group, highlights the critical role volunteers play in strengthening communities. Yet, despite making up a third of the nonprofit workforce, investment in volunteer engagement remains critically low, with only 0.17% of foundation giving dedicated to volunteer development in the past decade.
Volunteers aren’t free—they require training, management, and resources to make a meaningful impact. If we want to build a more resilient, connected, and engaged society, we must shift our perspective and prioritize investment in volunteer infrastructure.
