Rehan Malik is an experienced film and TV producer who co-created Bangkok Breaking, one of Thailand's biggest Netflix shows, and worked on virtual production workflows in Dubai. When AI began transforming the industry he'd spent decades building, he turned to Northumbria University to understand exactly what the technology could and couldn't do.
Rehan graduated from Northumbria with an MSc in Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence. Today, he's the founder of Coherent 360 — a human-centred AI lab building tools to transform film and TV production.
How does Coherent 360 work? The company uses AI to automate the logistics of production — scheduling, budgeting and management — freeing writers and creatives to focus on storytelling. A second tool in development will allow screenwriters to build and interact with virtual characters as creative partners.
His Master's research focused on whether AI can detect the Hero's Journey, the narrative framework behind some of the world's most beloved films. The finding was clear: AI still cannot reliably replicate long-form human storytelling. That insight became the foundation for Coherent 360.
Supported by Northumbria's Incubator Hub, Rehan now has access to advisors, investors and funding routes to bring his vision to life.
