Cobra vs Raven at Paultons Park, one coaster with two completely different themes as Cobra transforms into Raven inside Valgard: Realm of the Vikings. Watch both versions of the ride side by side as the original Cobra coaster races beneath the newly rethemed Raven, showcasing how Paultons Park completely reimagined one of its most iconic family roller coasters for the park’s huge 2026 Viking expansion.

The evolution of the Cobra roller coaster across two different eras of Paultons Park is incredible. The original Cobra footage runs alongside the newly transformed Raven experience, allowing viewers to directly compare the changes in theming, colours, scenery, queue design and atmosphere between the two versions of the coaster.

Originally opening in 2006, Cobra was a Gerstlauer Bobsled coaster themed around a giant snake. The coaster featured blue track, with a giant Cobra topiary positioned near the ride entrance. Cobra quickly became one of Paultons Park’s most popular family thrill rides thanks to its twisting layout, airtime hills, fast-paced turns and a Danger mind your head as the Coaster entered a head chopper moment after the mini airtime hills.

Although Cobra itself had relatively limited theming compared to modern Paultons Park expansions, the ride remained a fan favourite for many years and became an important part of the park’s history sitatued on teh far side of Paultons Park next to the aptly name Edge Disk'O Coaster.

In 2026, Cobra was completely transformed into Raven as part of the opening of Valgard: Realm of the Vikings. While the coaster layout and ride system remain the same, the surrounding experience has been dramatically redesigned with Viking theming, darker colours, new structures and immersive queue environments.

The bright blue Cobra track has now become Raven’s striking burgundy and green colour scheme, helping the coaster visually integrate into the new Viking land. The former Cobra topiary has disappeared, replaced by Nordic-inspired scenery and detailed theming throughout the area.

One of the most noticeable changes is the station itself. Cobra’s simpler flat-roofed station building has been redesigned with a much more dramatic Viking-inspired structure, featuring sharply angled rooflines, wooden detailing and a completely different visual identity.

The queue line and surrounding areas have also received significant upgrades, with wooden themed elements, Viking props, themed scenes and new storytelling throughout the attraction. Raven feels far more connected to the surrounding land than Cobra ever did, helping transform the coaster from a standalone ride into part of a fully immersive themed world.

As Raven returns to the station at the end of the ride, eagle-eyed fans may still be able to spot a samll reminder of Cobra, a nod to the coaster’s previous identity still remaining within the attraction.

Raven is now one of the major attractions inside Valgard: Realm of the Vikings, Paultons Park’s £12 million Viking-themed expansion that officially opened on 16th May 2026.

Alongside Raven, Valgard also introduced Drakon, Paultons Park’s first ever inverting roller coaster, and Vild Swing, the UK’s first ART Engineering Wild Swing. The land also includes The Orchard Playground and the large Nordic Feasting Hall restaurant.

Valgard was developed using land previously occupied by the Dragon Roundabout and Magma, alongside surrounding open space. Magma was relocated to Crealy Theme Park as Pirates Plummet, while Cobra itself was reborn as Raven. The former Go Karts were also removed for wider future expansion. Paultons Park has already confirmed the next major addition to Valgard with Serpent’s Curse, the UK’s first ever water coaster opening in 2027. Manufactured by MACK Rides, Serpent’s Curse will be built on the former Go Karts site and will expand Valgard even further with sweeping turns, water coaster sections and a huge splash finale.

Paultons Park, located in Hampshire’s New Forest, is home to over 70 rides and attractions including Peppa Pig World, Lost Kingdom, Tornado Springs, Critter Creek, Ghostly Manor and Valgard: Realm of the Vikings.
