Our understanding of memory—and how it falters—is being reshaped by breakthroughs at MIT’s Picower Institute for Learning and Memory and Aging Brain Initiative. Researchers there are uncovering how brain-wide networks, molecular pathways, and rhythmic electrical activity come together to sustain cognition—and how their disruption drives diseases like Alzheimer’s. In this session, Picower Professor Li-Huei Tsai will explore how systems-level studies of neuronal circuits are revealing new insights into disease progression, and how restoring healthy communication between brain regions may help protect memory. By connecting fundamental neuroscience to potential new therapies, this work offers fresh hope for understanding—and ultimately slowing—the effects of neurodegeneration.
