This example demonstrates how a 3D scanner can be used to reverse engineer a precision part for CNC milling. Laser scanners with sub-50 micron accuracy—such as the Creality Raptor and Sermoon series—are suitable for capturing detailed geometry for CAD reconstruction. However, automatic surfacing tools are not compatible with CNC workflows, as patch-based surfaces often cause toolpath generation issues. Instead, use standard CAD commands to manually reconstruct the part.
