French President Emmanuel Macron is welcomed by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson with full military honours in front of the National Museum on his arrival in Stockholm to formalise Sweden’s €4.3 billion order for French frigates, which cements military-industrial cooperation between the two countries against the backdrop of a growing Russian threat in Europe. In May, Sweden announced the purchase of four defence and intervention frigates (FDI) from the French company Naval Group, the first of which is due to be delivered in 2030, as part of its rearmament programme following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022 and its accession to NATO in 2024.
