Just the other week, I tried out a game called Undawn. It's a zombie survival third-person shooter MMO style game, and it's pretty fun. Its only real shortcoming is that it's primarily developed for mobile.
We see this more and more with games being developed first for the mobile platform and then now ported over to PC. While obviously effort has gone into making a PC version available, it is just always reaching ever so slightly short of reaching the status of a proper PC game. In the end, it ends up just being another companion to the mobile game... While it doesn't have to be that way!
Genshin Impact, Honkai Starrail, Albion, Undecember, Diablo Immortal and plenty more mobile games show that it is very much possible to create a better PC experience while also delivering a solid mobile experience. The other way around might actually make the changes necessary more apparent. The mobile port of RuneScape and Old School RuneScape both have significant changes to make the play experience better. You need a dedicated UI for the system you're releasing on, especially if you're making it a normal release. Undawn is a game that has released on Steam and therefore it deserves better PC support than what it currently gets.
Maybe I'm expecting too much for f2p games in 2023.
