Today the March 2020 Music Poll is ready to go! We have 8 new samples all wanting that chance to be finished and given life.

The first is an epic trailer piece called "The Black Blade." It's not a super, fast-paced track, but it's all business. The booming percussion and buzzing sounds really set the tone. The strings gradually become more and more intense as things come to a head.

The second track is called "Lake of Destiny." I had a hard time coming up with a name for this one. I wanted something that was a little serious and somber, but also had an underlying fragility. The harp starts us on the journey. Around 35 seconds we have an echoing guitar that really adds a sense of ethereal hollowness. The solo cello is the last addition and provides the counter melody for the harp.

"House of Fallen Souls" is the third entrant. It starts with a rock guitar and some airy background effects. Then we bring in an acoustic guitar and the echoing effects turn into a weird kind of screecher thing. I can't really explain what it is. This is a dark rock hybrid that made me feel like I was in some ancient house possessed by evil. Perhaps a vampire lord's mansion where many souls before mine had been consumed.

The fourth track is an eastern Asian, specifically Indian, attempt at a ceremonial dance. I imagined a sort of stage show with synchronized choreography. The starting guitar-like instrument is actually a saz, which is primarily featured in a lot of Turkish, Iranian, Assyrian and Armenian music. So there's a little bit of some culture mixing going on, but I thought it fit together pretty well.

The fifth track is a horror based one that mixes in some ambient elements with short melodies, most carried by cello and violin sections. We have some light, mood-setting percussion that sounds kind of like metallic pipes being banged on. I kept thinking of the fog slowly rolling in toward me and engulfing everything. Thus the name, "They Live in the Mist."

"This is My Path" started as a sort of hiphop beat, which is probably pretty noticeable. The untuned piano gave this a different tone that I thought worked well with the symphonic strings and synth bass. The piano having off notes almost inserts a sense of uncertainty or even regret that made this track feel a little more sentimental to me than what I first thought it would be.

Track number 7 is quite literally "Forest Ambience." This is one of the most purely atmospheric tracks I believe I've ever done. There isn't much in the way of "music" here except for the lower pad sounds and the chimes that intermingled throughout. There are several exotic bird sound effects I add to try to give us a sense of this particular forest being special and not well traversed. Mankind has largely left this place alone, which makes it magical and more pure.

And lastly, we have "Sound the Alarm." This is a mood-setter which fuses ambience and sound effects with a minimal backing score that primarily consists of steam sounding percussion and string sections. Ironically, this is the first track I made for this month's poll about 2 - 3 weeks ago. With everything now currently going on in my area and many others around the country/world, it seems rather fitting.

I'll start a private poll for the second tier and higher to cast your vote for the piece you want finished. Voting will end March 30th, so you have plenty of time to decide!

Thanks so much for your patience and continued support! I hope you've all been well and I hope you enjoy the music!
