Hello Everyone,
The August poll is ready with 6 new samples up for grabs. I've been working outside the last couple weeks, being fried by the sun all day, then coming home and working on this Patreon stuff, so I hope everything is up to snuff and this summary isn't too full of mistakes!
The first track is called "The Avenged." It's a kind of dark rock, orchestral hybrid. The piano is the lead instrument for this one and we start with it playing an alternate version of its main "chorus" melody. As the drums first enter, a grungy guitar takes the lead very shortly before the piano returns. The drums carry a lot of weight and help push the energy in this one. I envisioned this as a character theme for a gothic, grey-area hero who acts a vigilante, protects the innocent and cleans up the streets.
The second track is "Go East, Young Man." This is a hybrid track that's kind of my interpretation of American western meeting Japan. I envisioned this as a kind of noble, hero track with the sweeping koto notes, the slow strum of the layered acoustic guitar and the impactful hits from the taikos. I also got a sense of adventure, as if our hero were discovering new lands.
The third is a dramatic, orchestral and piano piece called "Skyward." This is the second track that features a piano lead, but the feeling to this is very different. This is more uplifting and hopeful. The strings add some depth with their fading chords and the brass some bass with their short notes. Once the main melody kicks in, the cymbals become more intense and add a good bit of impact to work in tandem with the pounding drums.
The fourth is a bit different. It started as a Sci-Fi rock theme, and I guess in a way it still kind of is. With the intro drums, bass and strings, I thought this was going to be something a bit more intense, like a battle theme of sorts. I think with the other guitars I added and the lead synths, it took a bit more of a laid back feeling. I pictured myself cruising around on a motorcycle in some sort of futuristic platform/racing game. And thus, "Cruisin'" was born.
The fifth track is "Their Army Approaches." It starts with some aggressive cello and light breathing effects. A few seconds in, I introduce some deeper, more intense breathing and together they form a sort of timing or percussion line. I thought it was kind of an interesting vibe it was creating. Except for that, everything else is traditionally orchestral in nature, from the blaring low brass, to the main horns and the ripping trumpets.
The last track for this poll is "Forest of Riddles." It starts with some weird, digital plucks and echoing bells. I bring in some "bendy" strings to add a bit of tension. A little later I have some metallic, industrial type noises as percussion and the harp plays our main melody. Everything comes together to form this unsettling atmosphere that's almost calming at the same time. Almost as if this forest is extremely evil, yet it's lulling me into a deep, deep slumber.
I'll start a private poll for the second tier and higher to cast your vote for the piece you want finished. Voting will end August 27th, so you have plenty of time to decide!
Thanks so much for your continued support! I hope you've all been well and I hope you enjoy the music!
