The country's free higher education program has been expanded. This was announced by President Marcos during the 58th Commencement Exercises of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. The president said the government has launched the Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship Program for outstanding senior high school graduates pursuing degree programs. The program will benefit more than two and a half million students. Under the program, college and technical training are free to poor students. The program removes tuition and other school fees in public schools.
