Recent secondhand find.. Freda Payne Sings - The (Unauthorized) I Hate Barney Songbook: A Parody CD released in ‘94. Enjoy it in all it’s goofy glory. I love me a good parody and thought some may appreciate it. So here it is.

(PS: Regarding my own personal thoughts on Barney, I just feel it wasn’t executed well. Mainly in the depth of how they tackle real world topics, the (IMO) need for more more original content rather than mainly public domain material, and the lack of realistic conflict (nothing in ill-will mind you, but just general problem solving using creativity. Issues arise, that’s just a fact of life. But you have to tackle it in a way that can be applied in areas & mediums that exist in real life, and to the extent of how and where imagination/the creative process works and how it benefits the real world. Rather than strictly “playing pretend” or “being an imaginary friend”. Which, while nothing wrong with the playing pretend and imaginary friend angles to a degree for what the show was aiming to do initially, there needed to be more balance in order for the message to make a proper impact/connection/be effective. Sheryl said she wanted to change the world with her character and message and make it a more positive place. But IMO, you can’t do that unless you acknowledge the realities of this world and respect both the adult & child mindset together. The goal for her mainly was to entertain her baby son, but the fact is those babies eventually grow up & develop. They cannot remain babies with no grasp on the more complex parts of the world forever. At the same though, because it’s been around for as long as it has at this point and people enjoy it the way it is, I certainly wouldn’t wish for it to be changed at this point. There’s obviously a reason that was successful as it was.
Which is why I’ve always preferred Disney’s Dreamfinder, Figment, and the original 1983-98 Journey Into Imagination ride at EPCOT in comparison. I feel ‘that’ got the true spirit of creativity & imagination right in a way that was original & unique and showcased it in a way that genuinely appealed and was able to be connect to ‘all’ ages without it being or feeling pandered to only one age demographic. (That being toddlers-preschoolers). That and showcasing true creativity in occupations you could apply that in rather than simply pretending in areas that don’t really fit it I feel better applies. The wider range of appeal, the better. My personal opinion of course, but yeah.)
