RimstarOrg | Franklin's Bells - How to Make and Demonstrations @RimstarOrg | Uploaded 11 years ago | Updated 13 hours ago
How to make and demonstrate Franklin's bells using things from around the house, even the high voltage source! This Franklin's bell is made using two soda cans, a straw, some thread, some tape and the pull tab from a can. I demonstrate it using a small Van de Graaff generator and even a homemade Van de Graaff generator, also a Wimshurst machine and then I show how to get the high voltage charge using an electrophorus made from a spatula, a cutting board and a cotton face cloth.

In case you don't have a plastic HDPE cutting board and spatula for making the electrophorus then learn more about doing charging using the triboelectric effect through this "Triboelectric effect/series or triboelectricity" video:

The selection of parts for the electrophorus was my own but the idea to use an electrophorus to charge the bell came from this video of Jeri Ellsworths' "FMCG Recording Oct 18, 2009 - Raw Footage":

3D model and animation done using Blender 2.63.
