G'day everyone. It is time to start properly framing the workshop.
Previously we framed some light duty stud plug wall to go into the spaces between the brick piers. These were solely done to add a bit of mass in these empty spaces and prevent reverb from occurring inside the walls. However, because these walls were flush with the brick, we cannot attach gyprock/plasterboard/drywall panels to them. Bricks are porous and moisture will travel through them, damaging the gyprock.
What we must do then is frame a new set of stud wall inside the garage. Because this is a soundproof room, it is good practice to decouple the inner stud walls from the outside walls. It doesn't have to be much (I am only doing the width of a piece of framing timber, but it will go a long way in preventing vibrations travelling from the inner wall to the outside.
And due to the rather unique way that I am approaching the wall design (using soundproof partitions along the inside wall, I will only be making 3 walls in this video; one running length ways with 2 adjoining walls. And in addition to that I will also make a heavy-duty stud frame which will be used for attaching the partitions too, as well as the lintel beam.
I know it is a very over the top design but trust the process. It is going to be an awesome, soundproof workshop. Cheers
