2024 Eastside FPV Summer Season Round 1: It's been a moment but I'm glad to be back! This is my first race of the year and first race in Australia pinching and sitting! To cut a long story short, in late 2021 I incurred a repetitive strain injury in my wrist (from overuse flying and simming), and since then haven't had the capacity to train or really go through daily life as I did before. Things didn't really get better over the two years, and I took a month off after my last race to figure out what I want to do with my future.
I came to the conclusion I'm either no longer racing competitively, or going to make some serious change to my methodology and try to keep pushing upwards at a fast enough pace to continue to be competitive at the elite level.
I started doing physio and working on a plan to stay in the game, and made the decision to switch to pinching and sitting to reduce wrist strain. Nick from @melbourne.hand.rehab has worked miracles and I'm regaining strength again to be able to train properly! It's going to be a long battle to fast track 11 years of thumbing experience to a totally new grip style, but through some good circumstance I managed to kick off the year with a win! It's going to be a lot of work, but in 2024 I'm focusing on my piloting how I dreamed of doing as an 18 year old in 2017.
