2022 MissionFoods Australian Drone Nationals: Wow... What a way to bring back our National race for the first time since 2019. We had more competitors then ever before, including an awesome visit from our Kiwi friends and even and entrant that travelled all the way from Japan! It was lovely to catch up with all the familiar and new faces over the course of the event, and it's so brilliant to see the high energy and enthusiasm across the board to push FPV and flying to new highs.
As far as the racing goes, the pace was blisteringly high. Even for pilots who had been out of the game for a while, they picked it back up in no time, and by the final day were pushing out personal bests just about every race. This time the race distance was set to slow down the field, which meant that throttle management was absolutely crucial to keeping a high pace across the three laps. I managed to set TQ and take first place overall, but oh what a battle it was. Honestly I want you to watch the BMSRacing coverage when that's released, so I'll keep the details low for now, but it was a good race right to the very end :)
Overall I'm left with a feeling of something like "what a way to kick things off". I am really excited to see the future of the Australian Drone Racing scene, and the influence it has in future global championships.
A massive thank you to Timmy, Scully and event organisers, without you we wouldn't have an Australian Nationals, and I always appreciate your never ending effort to put on an awesome event.
Thanks to everyone who visited and/or took part in the event. You give the race an irreplaceable atmosphere. Lets keep pushing that positive atmosphere across the FPV Community and throughout other industries too!
Finally a massive thank you to my parents, family, friends, sponsors and technical partners. Without the support of all of you, my racing career, or life for that matter couldn't be what it is. Whether you've been there from before my existence, or only just hopped onboard the BMS train, I appreciate you all and can't wait to see where the Journey goes from here.
One final note on the racing front, I've had a few messages saying how good it must be to finally have someone that can push me in Australia. I guess on paper my racing career looks pretty good to deceive people into thinking that I've had it easy. It's an extremely high compliment, but I have to say that never in my FPV Journey has the racetrack ever felt lonely. Whether I was racing StuntDoubleFPV, GoatFPV, Arktos, RekRek, Maverick, DougFPV, Redroo, FizzyFPV, TiltedFPV, Heepsy or IQ0, It has always been a battle to the finish line, and it's something I cherish and take with me wherever I go. We have a good scene in Australia and across the world, never forget that :)
