On July 16th, 2026, 21-year-old María Camila Potosí Gómez, who was eight months pregnant, left for a prenatal checkup in Cali, Colombia, and never returned. Security cameras captured her last moments alive boarding a motorcycle with another woman. Four days later, her body was found bound and stabbed near the Río Meléndez. On July 30th 2026, the Fiscalía and Policía Nacional carried out operations (allamamientos) in Cali and Tuluá (and possibly Andalucía) and captured five people allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of María Camila Potosí. Authorities announced that they had found the remains of a newborn/baby in a wooded area in Cali; Medicina Legal still needs to carry out forensic tests (including DNA) to officially confirm the identity of the baby.
