A sticking throttle isn't just annoying — on an early Ford it can get you killed. This one was hanging at 5,000 RPM, so before this Falcon goes back on the street with its modern driveline, the throttle had to be sorted out the right way.
In this episode we walk through the entire sticking-throttle litany on a 1960–65 Ford Falcon (the same diagnosis applies to 1960–64 Galaxies): the floor-mounted accelerator pedal assembly, the notorious bell crank linkage that only Rube Goldberg could love, every pivot and bearing point through the firewall, the return spring tension, and finally pulling the carburetor to check the throttle shafts.
You'll see the lubrication points most people miss, how to control your penetrating oil so you don't hose down the whole firewall, how to adjust a return spring with nothing but two pairs of needle-nose pliers, and the sneaky, maddening culprit that was behind it the whole time — a choke component catching on a heater hose.
If you own a classic Ford — Falcon, Galaxie, Futura, or anything with that early bell crank throttle setup — this is the troubleshooting walkthrough to bookmark before your next scary moment behind the wheel.
