John Lennon played a Hofner 5140 Hawaiian Standard Lap Steel Guitar and I've got a Rogue Lap Steel from Guitar Center. It sounded pretty good! Tuned to D A D F# C D. I found that rolling the tone down to zero or just near was the closest tone. A regular steel slide did not sound right as there was too much sustain. The plastic 'Dispoz-a-lite' lighter John used deadened the strings, ultimately giving it this really cool bouncy sound.
