This week has brought up a lot.
Between the passing of Hayden Panettiere, who spoke so openly about her experience with postpartum depression, and the conversations happening around the Lindsay Clancy trial, I've found myself thinking about my own postpartum experience in ways I haven't in a long time.
I'm not an expert, and this isn't an analysis of either case. This is just my experience.
After a traumatic birth, a C-section, heart failure and becoming a mom for the first time, I was struggling deeply with postpartum depression, anxiety and rage. And even with incredible privilege, family and friends who loved me, and access to healthcare, getting the actual help I needed felt nearly impossible.
Eventually, people showed up for me in ways that saved my life.
So if you're a mom watching all of this unfold and it's bringing things up for you too: I see you. I hear you. And please know there is help.
