I made this video because I am a curvy hooper, and I am proud of it. As we all know, there are lots and lots of skinny hoopers out there and lots and lots of skimpy hoop clothes! I've watched a lot of belly dancers lately and realized that it's (at least somewhat more) acceptable for them to show off their midsection because it's what they do....but why do we think twice about curvy hoopers showing some skin? No more, I say!
The hoop has made me comfortable in my own body and unafraid to show it off. While I don't go dancing in my sports bra and leggings at the park (my city is rather conservative), I have found the beauty in my body, through the hoop. The hoop has made me stronger, in body and mind, because it helped me break through these mental and physical barriers.
I know lots of other curvy, closet hoopers out there. I want you to know that it's okay to dance in front of others (covered up or not), to perform, and to be in love with yourself and your body.
Even though I have lost 50lbs, I have not let my weight hold me back or keep me out of the hoop or sharing the hoop love with anybody. The hoop is part of the reason why I've lost that weight, and I'm grateful, because I'm healthier, and I can do more in my dance, but you should let the hoop help you feel comfortable in your skin and not be afraid to be seen no matter what! The hoop can help you find yourself. Your voice. Your passion.
So go out there and get your hoop on!!
