A message from SIPTU Health Divisional Organiser, Kevin Figgis.
As you know, these proposals were negotiated against the backdrop of a global pandemic, the uncertainty surrounding Brexit and with thousands of public sector workers deeply concerned about the future.
This new public service agreement can build on the progress we have made in recent years.
The proposals represent a constructive suite of measures that will benefit tens of thousands of our members working on the frontline of our public services.
The proposals, endorsed by our National Executive Council, reject a return to austerity, advance pay and reduce income inequality by recouping overtime rates, premium payments for tens of thousands of low and middle waged workers.
Significantly, the proposals also retain the essential protections necessary to defend against the unilateral outsourcing of public service jobs and provide for the creation of a sectoral bargaining fund as a mechanism to address a range of other issues for our members.
If ratified, this will be a “transitional agreement” and would run from 1st January 2021 until 31st December 2022.
If the proposal is accepted by SIPTU members in the health service, it is intended that negotiations on a successor agreement will take place during the early summer of 2022.
We encourage you to have your say and send back your ballot paper to us no later than Wednesday, 10th February.
Should you have any questions on the proposals please do not hesitate to get in touch at publicserviceproposals@siptu.ie
